This prestigious Smithsonian Affiliations member museum contains a collection of artifacts and relics from the American Civil War, as well as from railroads of the state of Georgia and surrounding regions. The centerpiece of which is “The General” – a steam locomotive used in the famous Great Locomotive Chase in April 1862.
The Archives house a significant collection of drawings, blueprints, photographs and correspondence from various American businesses representing the railroad industry in the South after the Civil War.
Your Ice Cream Social ticket entitles you not only a free admission to the museum and its great features, but also to a free cup of locally-made premium ice cream accompanied by special accoutrements of premium sauces and assorted quality toppings!!
In addition, since this event occurs around everyone’s lunchtime (specially if you’re from the East), food trucks or stalls by quality food vendors will be made available (just outside the museum) for your convenience!
NOTE: Please be advised that food & ice cream are not allowed anywhere on the museum floor. So, you have a choice of doing the museum tour first, then, grab & eat your ice cream. Or do the activities in reverse. Enjoy!
